I was attending a talk with a priest about the beauty of architecture and how they would build these to glorify God. Somewhere in the talk he mentioned how the original architects who came up with the plans and schematics behind the building were 1- not alive to see their masterpiece and 2- are unknown to use as information of who the original architect was is lost after hundreds of years. Another thing that stuck out were the workers and how they would still put 100% into their work even though it would be at the highest point for no one to see. It really showed how all of theses cathedrals, basilicas, and churches were made for God's eye.
